Yankees Reactions: Weathers Pitches Great, Offense and Bullpen Fail as Bombers lose 4th Straight
Brent Headrick gave up a huge 3-run homer and the Yankees have lost four straight games.
BALTIMORE, MD — It was almost unbelievable. The Yankees had a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. The final is now 3-2 Orioles as the Yankees drop to 26-16 on the season.
Pitching Spotlight
Ryan Weathers had a no-hitter going to the bottom of the seventh inning. Three batters later, the no hitter and lead were both gone. Brent Headrick has been one of the Yankees most reliable relievers this season, but back-to-back outings he’s given up home runs. Today, was a big three-run home run to Colby Mayo. That’s three games in a row the bullpen has blown leads of two or more runs.
Hitting Spotlight
The only meaningful hit in the game was off the bat of Ben Rice. He powered a two-run home run off the right-hander Young, his second hit of the game and 13th home run of the season.
Rice provided the Yankees offense today that continues to struggle on the road. They some chances to put some more runs on the board, but could not get the big hit, or the big sac fly to put an extra run on the board. In a one-run loss, that proves costly.
Notable
The Yankees bullpen had been really bad as of late. It feels like every chance they get to come into a game and blow it lately, they do. These things happen in bunches, but for the Yankees, this is a multiple game stretch where it seems they can’t get a big out from the bullpen. We knew coming into 2026 it was going to be bad, but never did I think it would be this bad.
And McMahon just missed tying the game up. It was not meant to be. The offense went quietly into the night.
What’s Next
The Yankees will look to right the ship tomorrow against the Orioles. The Yankees will be sending out Will Warren looking to put together a better outing than his last one. The Orioles have not listed a starter yet, but it’s expected to be lefty Trevor Rodgers. The game will be at 6:35pm on YES.
