Yankees Reactions: Rodón Struggles with Command, Offense Leaves a Village on Base
Mets even up the Subway Series, Rubber Game Tomorrow
QUEENS, NY — That was really ugly from the Yankees. The Bombers lose 5-3 to the Mets, and fall to 28-18 on the 2026 season. Their abysmal offensive performances continue through this one, where the offense left 24 runners on base.
Pitching Spotlight
Carlos Rodón made his second start of 2026 tonight. It was not a good one. Rodon surrendered two earned runs, three overall through just 3.2 innings of work. There were a lot of long at-bats, a lot of foul balls and it did not help that Rodón struggled to get the third out in this outing.
There was also this super weird wild pitch, E1 that gave the Mets the lead that was never relinquished.
It’s understandable that Rodón’s command would be off a bit given he’s retiring from a major surgery, but the E1 is inexcusable.
Hitting Spotlight
The Yankees offense left a small village on base tonight. It was highlighted against former Yankee Luke Weaver in the seventh inning when the Yankees loaded the bases with no outs against lefty Brooks Raley. Two strikeouts and a groundout later the Yankees left the bases loaded, not scoring a run. Mind you, a single would have tied the game. A ball in play with less than two outs would have made this a one-run game.
The Yankees were 3-15 with Runners in Scoring Position. They had chances to blow this game wide open, but the Yankees offense, that outhit the Mets, could not push across high leverage runs to get back into the ballgame.
Notable
The Yankees offense for some reason can’t hit on the road. The at-bats are poor and the strike out rate is much higher than at home. I don’t know if it’s a comfort thing, but their offense is not the same on the road to what it is at home.
What’s Next
The rubber game of the Queens portion of the Subway Series will be tomorrow on YES network. The Yankees will be starting Elmer Rodriguez for his third outing of the season (first not against the Rangers). The Mets will send out their ace, Freddy Peralta. First pitch will be at 1:40pm from Citi Field.
