Yankees Preview: The Start of Three in Toronto
The Yankees return to Toronto for the first time since last October
TORONTO — For the first time in 2026, the Yankees will visit the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, a place where the Yankees went 1-9 in 10 games, including the postseason in 2025.
To say the least, Rogers Centre has been a house of horrors for the Yankees in recent seasons, not winning a series in that building since September of 2023.
First pitch Friday will be at 7:37pm on YES Network and the Gotham Sports App.
Here is how the Yankees will line up today:
The Yankees are going with their best defensive lineup with Jose Caballero at shortstop, Ryan McMahon at third base, and Spencer Jones in right field against the Blue Jays. One of the biggest criticisms of the Yankees at Rogers Centre was how bad the Yankees’ defense played last season, and the Yankees are sending their best defense on the field in game one.

Pitching Matchup
Yankees LHP Ryan Weathers (2-4, 3.86)
Ryan Weathers has had a solid year so far, but he has been bitten a bit by the long ball, particularly with his fastball. The last time Weathers faced the Blue Jays, he gave up five earned runs in 5.1 innings of work. The Yankees will need Weathers to lock in today. Even with yesterday‘s off day, the bullpen has been used, and it would be smart to avoid overusage in game one of three for the second series in a row.

Blue Jays RHP Trey Yesavage (2-3, 3.16)
The Yankees have seen Trey Yesavage two times before and are yet to score an earned run against him. His splitter has been tough on the Yankees in the past, but he has struggled in his last few outings. The Yankees are hoping that the more they see him, the more they will recognize his pitches and low arm angle that is puzzling to say the least.
