Yankees Preview: Gerrit Cole gets the start in Tiger Town
Gerrit Cole gets the start with Yerry De Los Santos being recalled from AAA
DETROIT — After losing back-to-back games for the first time in three weeks, the Yankees head to Detroit to take on the Tigers for a three-game series at Comerica Park.
The Yankees have recalled RHP Yerry De Los Santos from AAA Scranton after optioning RHP Elmer Rodriguez after yesterday’s game. De Los Santos has not been great as of late, giving up four runs over his past four outings for the RailRiders.
First pitch Monday will be at 6:10pm EST on YES.
Here is how the Yankees will line up today:
The Yankees are going with Amed Rosario in the leadoff spot. Paul Goldschmidt returns to the lineup at first base so the defense improves on the right side. Jasson Dominguez is still in right field, and Jose Caballero is in left. Interestingly, Ali Sanchez is catching Gerrit Cole, not Ausin Wells.
Here is how the Tigers will line up today:
Pitching Matchup
Yankees RHP Gerrit Cole (2-1, 2.57)
Gerrit Cole got an extra day of rest this turn through the rotation. It will be the first time Cole has pitched against the Tigers (also in a series opener at Comerica Park) since 2024, and he won 3-0. Now Cole is looking to be the stopper for the Yankees and give the Yankees a series-opening win.

Tigers LHP Framber Valdez (3-5, 4.09)
The Yankees have had their fair share of success against Valdez in his career, both at Yankee Stadium and on the road. The Yankees have also been one of the best teams against left-handed starters in 2026, so this should be a good matchup for the Yankees, but they can’t be leaving a ton
