Yankees Preview: Carlos Rodón goes in Detroit against Casey Mize
The Yankees are looking to snap a three-game skid
DETROIT — The Yankees are now on a losing streak after dropping the first game to the Tigers. It marks the first time in over a month that the Yankees have lost three in a row, and they will look to avoid a fourth in a row and another series loss.
Prior to the game, the Yankees placed C Ali Sanchez on the paternity list and recalled C J.C. Escarra from AAA Scranton. Sanchez was removed from the game yesterday after getting hit by a pitch on the hand, but all X-rays and CT scans came back negative, and Sanchez will avoid the IL.
First pitch Tuesday will be at 6:40pm on the YES Network and the Gotham Sports App.
Here is how the Yankees will line up today:
Ryan McMahon is on the bench for the second straight game after Aaron Boone initially said on Talkin Yanks that Anthony Volpe would get the day off today. The Yankees are going with their best outfield alignment with Cody Bellinger in left, Spencer Jones in center, and Jasson Domínguez in right.
Here is how the Tigers will line up today:
Pitching Matchup
Yankees LHP Carlos Rodón (3-2, 3.50)
Carlos Rodón has been good for the Yankees as of late but seems to always struggle against the Tigers and in Detroit in his career. Rodón is going to need to play the role Gerrit Cole could not yesterday, and that’s stopper. Rodón could be another team’s ace-level starter, and for the Yankees, he’s their number three or four starter and needs to perform better than that tonight.

Tigers RHP Casey Mize (2-4, 2.58)
The Yankees have had trouble with Casey Mize in the past, and he’s been on his game this season. Last season, Mize was 2-0 against the Yankees, posting a 2.25 ERA in 12.0 innings of work. The Yankees are going to need to get to Mize today if they want to win, and their lineup has struggled as of late. Not the ideal matchup for the Yankees.
