Yankees Preview: Carlos Rodón gets the start in Cleveland seeking the sweep.
New York will go for the sweep of the Guardians in a battle of the southpaws.
CLEVELAND — After another night featuring late heroics, the Yankees are looking for the sweep of the Guardians on the road.
They will need a lot of length from Carlos Rodón today, with the Yankees’ bullpen having been used a ton over the past two games. Still, closer David Bednar should be available if the situation of a save presents itself.
First pitch Wednesday will be at 1:10pm on the YES Network and the Gotham Sports App.
Here is how the Yankees will line up today:
Against a lefty pitcher, Paul Goldschmidt will lead off and DH, with Ben Rice anchoring first base. Jose Caballero is back in the lineup, but in right field, with Anthony Volpe still at shortstop. Against the lefty, Amed Rosario will be at third base, so the left side of the Yankees’ infield defensively will be something today.
Here is how the Guardians will line up today:
Pitching Matchup
Yankees LHP Carlos Rodón (1-2, 2.88)
Carlos Rodón dealt against this Guardians lineup last week, giving up one run over six innings of work. Going for the sweep today, Rodón looks to do the same. He’s made over 20 career starts against the Guardians and overall has some pretty good numbers, but like Cole yesterday, the matchup to watch is Rodón against José Ramírez.
Here is how Rodón has fared against the Guardians in his career
Opponent LHP Parker Messick (4-2, 2.70)
Early in the season, Parker Messick has looked like a perennial Cy Young contender. This will be a tough challenge for the Yankees lineup, especially without Aaron Judge, but it’s a good challenge because the Yankees need to be able to beat high-caliber pitchers.
Messick has never faced the Yankees, or anyone in their lineup, in his career.
