Yankees Preview: Cam Schlittler under the Friday Night Lights
The Reds come to town and face Cam Schlittler.
NEW YORK — The Yankees will be taking on the Reds in the Bronx for a three-game series, beginning tonight.
The Reds (35-38) come into town after winning two out of three games against the Mets in Cincinatti. Prior to that, the Reds went through a few weeks of struggles, including their bullpen, which ranks 28th in fWAR in all of baseball.
First pitch Friday will be at 7:05pm on the YES Network and the Gotham Sports App.
Here is how the Yankees will line up today:
The Yankees lineup remains pretty much the same, with Jazz Chisholm Jr. (ball to groin) returning to the lineup. J.C. Escarra will catch Cam Schlittler

Pitching Matchup
Yankees RHP Cam Schlittler (7-3, 1.82)
The odds-on favorite to win the AL Cy Young is going tonight against a Reds offense that ranks 26th in fWAR and second in strikeout percentage. In short, the Reds have struggled a bit offensively this season, and this should be a solid matchup for Schlittler, who gets strikeouts and can dominate even the league’s best offenses.
This will be the first time in his career that Schlittler will face the Reds.
Reds RHP Rhett Lowder (3-3, 4.60)
The Yankees will be facing Rhett Lowder, who has struggled in 2026. In fact, his surface numbers are better than his underlying metrics, which show that Lowder has an xERA of 4.99 and gets hit hard regularly. Lowder has also walked 25 batters in 47 innings this season, which is a lot. The Yankees should have some success against him tonight, especially with their ace on the mound.
This will be the first time Lowder has faced the Yankees, but he’s faced a few of the Yankees batters:
